The Client
Westfield Shopping centre was built prior to the Olympics and opposite the Olympic Sports Village in Stratford.
The centre sees annual visitors in the tens of millions and has a history of breaking records for footfall and retail revenue, making it one of the UK’s premier shopping destinations.
The Challenge
Built from cutting-edge materials and featuring a modern aesthetic, the site’s perimeter was in need of high-security barriers that could fit in with the architecture. These barriers would be used to restrict vehicles from accessing service entrances and to prevent ram-raid and vehicle-borne attacks.
The Objective
Multiple areas across the retail site required upgraded security and better access control, including the restaurant area and the service entrances.
The Solution
A number of HVM security products were supplied and installed by ATG Access on the site, including automatic and fixed high-security bollards, a high-security gate and car park blockers.
In addition to supplying and installing the products, ATG provided the drawings and planning for the site’s complicated electrical layouts. This allowed for seamless integration of the systems across the site, providing swift access to authorised vehicles along with a high level of protection at the site’s perimeter.
The Results
The installation was completed on time, ahead of the highly anticipated Olympic games which would bring record levels of footfall and vehicle traffic to the area. The project was completed as part of a larger upgrade to the security in the areas surrounding the Olympic stadium and village and ensured visitors remained safe throughout the event.
